Catering Climbing as a pair and putting it all into practice: This is where everything comes together. You'll get to choose a suitable climb, set up the belay under supervision and climb/belay as a pair. At the end of the course there will be a debrief where your instructor will offer feedback on your progress, offer advice as to how to progress and answer any questions you may have. A certificate of attendance will be issued upon completion. This certificate should not be considered a qualification of any kind, it will however, show the areas covered during the course and indicate a level of competency in these areas. Diving This is your chance to experience it first hand and look at the world from a different perspective. Enjoy the freedom being weightless underwater; it’s the closest you can get to experience the zero-gravity feeling that astronauts get during their missions. The program lasts approximately 3 hours and no prior experience is required to join this activity. We will supply you with all you need for the dive and we will also spend a good portion of the time explaining the basic facts about diving so you will be aware of the key elements and information for a safe and enjoyable diving experience Climbing Learning to Climb Either a single full day to cover the basics or two full days to cover the full course. It's not necessary to have previous experience to attend these sessions. While the 'Taster Session' will give the novice a fun experience, these sessions are aimed at those who wish to learn how to climb. We will cover all aspects of climbing on single pitch (the climb does not exceed one rope length) top roped venues. Leading is not taught during these sessions but is discussed purely to give the climber an overall view for future progression. The course will cover: Equipment and its use: This information will be provided throughout the course as opposed to being presented in a 'lecture' fashion. This maximises time spent on the rock and ensures the best possible uptake of the information as people generally learn and retain information in a better fashion if it is presented in a practical way. Movement on the rock: How to move in the vertical world. There are many movements used in climbing that will not be obvious to most novices, we'll look at these and practice their use throughout the course. Climbing even easy angled rock can initially feel very strenuous to some people. Using the correct movements and body position will allow the climber to save energy and move in a more efficient way. Setting up and using a belay: It's essential before starting to climb that you have an understanding of belays and the safety chain. We will take an in depth look at how and why the system works, the most common errors and how to avoid them as well as correct use. This information will be presented in a practical way allowing all parties to get 'hands on' experience. It is expected that all participants will be competent belayers before the end of the course. |
